Cape of Good Hope

Portuguese explorer Bartholomeus Dias was the first European to set foot on the cape. The Cape of Good Hope experiences strong winds all year round because of its unique
geographical location, which prompted Bartholomeus to name it as the "Cape of Storms". During the initial period of its discovery, the Cape of Good Hope was thought to be the edge of the world. It remains one of the most popular attractions for tourists around the world.

There are many reasons why you should visit the Cape of Good Hope, such as:
●  Cape of Good Hope offers the freshest air you can find around the world
● The opportunity to witness the convergence of the cold Benguela current from the west coast with the warm Agulhas current from the east
● It is the home of one of the world's highest coastal cliff (249 meters in elevation) with over 250 different bird species residing in the region. Cape of Good Hope is an incredible location for avid bird watchers
● It is the habitat of more than 1,100 plant species, some of which are endemic
● Visitors will be able to see a variety of wildlife, including antelope, hartebeest, rock hyrax, baboon and so forth
● Cape of Good Hope offers excellent vantage point for dolphin and whale watching during the period of May through November

In addition, tourists can also take a trip to the old Cape Point lighthouse, which is situated at the highest point of the cape. You can either get there on foot or take the Flying Dutchman Funicular as a comfortable alternative to reach the destination while enjoying the national park scenery along the way.

Upon reaching the lighthouse, the strong winds are the first obstacle that visitors have to overcome. On the plus side, the view of the point where the two major oceans of the world converge is a sight to behold. You may also try to send electronic postcards to your family and friends halfway around the world here to wish them the best.
The Cape of Good Hope has developed into an ideal tourist attraction. Naturally, the place has more than enough high quality dining establishments and gift shops. Patrons at The Two Oceans Restaurant are treated to the exquisite and unobstructed views of the vast oceans and False Bay. Don't worry if you feel hungrier than usual in such a pleasant atmosphere, it is only natural (do watch for the higher prices for food and merchandize around here).

After you have filled your empty stomach, you might want to check out some of the gift shops here (such as the Cape of Good Hope Lighthouse Store and Cape Point Store) if you are in the mood to hunt for special South African antiques or one-of-a-kind souvenirs.
